The Roosevelt, Book 1
Normal is just a setting on the dryer.
High school graduate Jeremey Samson is looking forward to burying his head under the covers and sleeping until it’s time to leave for college. Then a tornado named Emmet Washington enters his life. The double major in math and computer science is handsome, forward, wicked smart, interested in dating Jeremey—and he’s autistic.
But Jeremey doesn’t judge him for that. He’s too busy judging himself, as are his parents, who don’t believe in things like clinical depression. When his untreated illness reaches a critical breaking point, Emmet is the white knight who rescues him and brings him along as a roommate to The Roosevelt, a quirky new assisted living facility nearby.
As Jeremey finds his feet at The Roosevelt, Emmet slowly begins to believe he can be loved for the man he is behind the autism. But before he can trust enough to fall head over heels, he must trust his own conviction that friendship is a healing force, and love can overcome any obstacle.
Warning: Contains characters obsessed with trains and counting, positive representations of autism and mental illness, a very dark moment, and Elwood Blues.

Choo, Chooooo!!  First things first, I fell in love with Emmet David Washington on page 2.  This book was everything I was hoping for and more.  How the author was able to aloow us to see inside the heads of this remarkable characters is beyond me.  All 3 “non-normal” characters were very enlightening to read with their disabilities.

Emmet:

Highly functioning, geniusly autistic and he has set his sights on Jeremey, his next door neighbor.  I loved how Emmet expressed himself through his t-shirts and that when he could not express his feelings verbally,  he used ALS or text messaging.  I literally cried when his mom would scold him with the use of 2 fingers,  which in turn he applied 3 fingers to apologize to her.

Jeremey:

Sweet, beautiful and trusting (of Emmet) he seemed to have the most problems throughout the book.  With a extremely depressive disorder, he faced everyday life on the scale of how bad his panic attacks would be, and how someday’s his depression would not even let him leave his bed. (I  loved how Heidi used Target instead of Walmart, when Jeremy was facing his demons about shopping, but I feel everyone has a panic attack facing Wally World at one time in their lives.)

David:

I see David as the Enigma,  he was a royal dick when he first arrived but I ended up loving him in the end.  He completed the circle for Jeremy and Emmet by being a true friend and confidant to both.  Really looking forward to reading his story (as Emmet says its only his to tell)
