KAGE BY MARIS BLACK BLOG TOUR

Blurb:

ROUND 1 of the KAGE Trilogy

My name is Jamie Atwood, and I’m an addict. I never thought I’d say such a thing. Never had a problem being overly-attached to anything in my life. I came from a perfectly middle-class family, made good grades, and had a hot cheerleader girlfriend... but the truth is, nothing ever really moved me. So how did a guy like me become an addict?

I met Michael Kage.

Kage is an MMA fighter. A famous one. I like to think I helped him get that way.

He’s charming as hell, with looks to rival any movie star and talent to back it up. So why did he need to hire me as an intern Publicist? Simple. He has a darkness in him– like a black hole so deep it could swallow him, and me, and everyone we know– and that’s not good for business.

The first time I met him, I felt the pull. I think the addiction began at that very moment. And even if I’d known then what I know now, I would have fallen for him. How could I not?

For me, Kage is everything

EXCERPT:

Kage pushed his tongue deeper into my mouth, and suddenly I was sucking hungrily at his tongue,

winding my arms around his neck, and pressing my lower body against his. I was desperate to get

closer, to feel through the barrier of my clothing what he had pressed against me. My hunger knew

no bounds, growing exponentially with each passing second as it became clearer that this was not

some fevered fantasy. This was actually happening.

And I was going to let it.

He unwound my arms from his neck and reached down to pull my t-shirt over my head so that we

were skin to skin. The scrub of chest hair against my nipples was exquisite torture, and I moaned,

pulling back to catch my breath.

“Fuck no, you’re not going anywhere!” Kage yanked me back against him. “I’ve waited too long for

this. Been patient enough.” He covered my mouth and face with kisses, moved down to my throat,

and bit the sensitive skin there until I cried out. I was overcome with passion, my breath coming in

quick gasps as I fought to keep it together. I had always thought of myself as a player and a skilled

lover, but I swear Kage made me feel like a virgin all over again.

“Take off your pants,” he said.

“What are you planning on doing to me?” I asked, my voice distant to my own ears as I worked my

shorts down my legs, leaving my boxer briefs on.

“What I should have done when you first got here…”

“How did you know I’d let you?”

He chuckled. “I could tell by the way you look at me. Like you’re eating me alive with your eyes.”

“I don’t do that,” I protested. “I don’t even like guys.”

“Liar.” Kage shook his head and took a step back. “Get on your knees, Jamie.”

“Pardon me?”

“Don’t give me that look. I said get on your knees.”

I wanted to tell him no, that this was insanity, and that I wasn’t gay. I wanted to point out that I’d just

recently had a girlfriend whom I’d fucked soundly on a regular basis. But instead I sank to my knees

in front of him and waited, looking up at his unbelievably perfect body, all muscles and planes and

smooth skin. The boyish face with the five-o’clock shadow, the dark locks of hair that fell loosely

around his face… and that’s when I felt it. He was right. I was devouring him with my eyes, because

God help me I could not get enough.

Maris Black has slowly become one of my favorite authors, in Michael Kage she has given us a gritty, hard to put my finger on character.  This book is the first book in her new trilogy and ends in a cliffhanger.   It is told by Jamie’s POV; Jamie whom concerned himself straight with girlfriend Layla.  That is until he meets Kage at a MMA fight in Atlanta, called to Vegas to be Kages intern publicist for the summer.  Jamie sets up to learn his job, learn about his employer and learn about MMA all at the same time.

“I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and got a nose full of Michael Kage pheromones.”

Kage is the enigma of this book,  nothing is as it really seems, he trains constantly, only eats a special diet;  Maris gives nothing away about his character,  the first book is setting the foundation of Jamie and Kage’s friendship, work relationship and finally a sexual relationship.  And let me tell you, the sex in this book is smoking HAWT, like page burning smoking hot.

“The truth was I had a humdinger of a gay crush on my client. Like dicks and balls and ass and muscles and man kisses.  Like gay as shit, Like…ah, hell.”

This book does end in a cliffhanger that makes you want to throw your damn Kindle,  I loved everything about it,  the slow build up, trying to figure out the “real” Michael Kage and I actually loved it being mostly in first person.  Really looking forward to August 24th when we will receive the next Kage installment”.   I.Cannot.Wait!

“This is mine now,” Kage said.
“Yes.”
“I don't share,”
“Me, neither.”

AUTHOR BIO
My name is Maris Black (sort of), and I'm a Southern Girl through and through. In college, I majored in English and discovered the joys of creative writing and literary interpretation. After honing my skills discovering hidden meanings authors probably never intended, I collected my near-worthless English degree and got a job at a newspaper making minimum wage. But I soon had to admit that small town reporting was not going to pay the bills, so I went back to school and joined the medical field. Logical progression, right? But no matter what I did, my school notebooks and journals would not stop filling up with fiction. I was constantly plotting, constantly jotting prose, constantly casting the people I met as characters in the secret novels in my head.Yep. I can blame my creative mother for thatWhen I finally started writing fiction for a living, I surprised myself with my choice of genre. I'd always known I wanted to write romance, but the first story that popped out was about a couple of guys finding love during a threesome with a woman. Then I wrote about more guys, and more guys, and more guys. I was never a reader of gay fiction, and I'd never planned to write it. The only excuse I have for myself is: Hey, it's just what comes out!

Lessons for Suspicious Minds by Charlie Cochrane

An invitation to stay at a friend of the Stewart family’s stately home can only mean one thing for Jonty Stewart and Orlando Coppersmith—a new case for the amateur sleuths! With two apparently unrelated suicides, a double chase is on.

But things never run smoothly for the Cambridge fellows. In an era when their love dare not speak its name, the chance of discovery (and disgrace) is ever present—how do you explain yourself when a servant discovers you doing the midnight run along the corridor?

The chase stops being a game for Orlando when the case brings back memories of his father’s suicide and the search for the identity of his grandfather. And the solution presents them with one of the most  difficult moral decisions they’ve had to make...

I have come to love Historical's in the M/M genre, though this was my first book by this author, I plan to go back and read the 9 books ahead of this.  Loved the chemistry between Jonty and Orlando, even though they were in the age of prison by showing homosexuality.  It was the small things that made them so sweet.  Love that Jonty wants to clear up Orlando's past for him even though Orlando says it doesn't matter (you can tell that it does matter).

Now lets talk about Jonty's parents,  my oh my, did they make me giggle, especially his dad.  Loved their interactions during their "conferences".  Really great mystery and a fantastic ending,  would recommend this book if you are looking for a great whodunit without sex scenes.

I give this book 4 stars.

The Roosevelt, Book 1
Normal is just a setting on the dryer.
High school graduate Jeremey Samson is looking forward to burying his head under the covers and sleeping until it’s time to leave for college. Then a tornado named Emmet Washington enters his life. The double major in math and computer science is handsome, forward, wicked smart, interested in dating Jeremey—and he’s autistic.
But Jeremey doesn’t judge him for that. He’s too busy judging himself, as are his parents, who don’t believe in things like clinical depression. When his untreated illness reaches a critical breaking point, Emmet is the white knight who rescues him and brings him along as a roommate to The Roosevelt, a quirky new assisted living facility nearby.
As Jeremey finds his feet at The Roosevelt, Emmet slowly begins to believe he can be loved for the man he is behind the autism. But before he can trust enough to fall head over heels, he must trust his own conviction that friendship is a healing force, and love can overcome any obstacle.
Warning: Contains characters obsessed with trains and counting, positive representations of autism and mental illness, a very dark moment, and Elwood Blues.

Choo, Chooooo!!  First things first, I fell in love with Emmet David Washington on page 2.  This book was everything I was hoping for and more.  How the author was able to aloow us to see inside the heads of this remarkable characters is beyond me.  All 3 “non-normal” characters were very enlightening to read with their disabilities.

Emmet:
Carry_blues_brothers_Fotor.jpg
Highly functioning, geniusly autistic and he has set his sights on Jeremey, his next door neighbor.  I loved how Emmet expressed himself through his t-shirts and that when he could not express his feelings verbally,  he used ALS or text messaging.  I literally cried when his mom would scold him with the use of 2 fingers,  which in turn he applied 3 fingers to apologize to her.

Jeremey:
Carry-the-Ocean (1)_Fotor.jpg
Sweet, beautiful and trusting (of Emmet) he seemed to have the most problems throughout the book.  With a extremely depressive disorder, he faced everyday life on the scale of how bad his panic attacks would be, and how someday’s his depression would not even let him leave his bed. (I  loved how Heidi used Target instead of Walmart, when Jeremy was facing his demons about shopping, but I feel everyone has a panic attack facing Wally World at one time in their lives.)

David:

I see David as the Enigma,  he was a royal dick when he first arrived but I ended up loving him in the end.  He completed the circle for Jeremy and Emmet by being a true friend and confidant to both.  Really looking forward to reading his story (as Emmet says its only his to tell)

Blurb:

A year ago Declan Jasper was entertaining sold-out arena crowds as the lead singer of Black Rainbows. But that came to an explosive end when the band got caught up in a criminal cover-up, one that ended with the entire band dead. At least that’s what everyone is supposed to think.

Now, Dex is hiding in plain sight, working as the school band director in a sleepy little mountain resort town while under the protection of a hard-nosed FBI agent. Instead of eyeliner and black leather, he now wears glasses and corduroy. Instead of having sexy coeds—both male and female—throw themselves into his bed, he’s dealing with teenage angst and grumpy parents.

At the top of his troubles list is Kelsey Walker, a junior high bundle of rare musical talent in the form of one confused, messed-up adolescent. Dex figures the problem comes from her broken home and wants to help. But when he meets her father, sexy bar-owner, Jack Walker, he realizes that instead of helping he’s probably just bringing more trouble and danger to their door.

Dex has to stay alive until the trial to bring his bandmates’ murderers to justice, but can he do that if it means sacrificing his own happily ever after?

Review

I’m a sucker for a good M/M suspense, it happens to be my favorite sub-genre,  and this book was everything I was looking for.  After suffering through the loss of 3 of his best friends and bandmates, Declan “Dex” Jasper/Finn Alexander has put his life on hold and pretened to be dead to bring a murderer to justice.

But teaching junior high band, was not something he was looking forward to facing.  When he meets bar owner Jack and his 12-year-old daughter Kelsey, Finn thinks this is not such a bad set up.
Loved how Dex knew that Kelsey heard music in her head,  and set up to let it loose.
The suspense really doesn’t build up until about 60% into book, but the ride the author takes you on to get there made it worth while.

ABOUT  THE  AUTHOR

As an avid reader my entire life, I’ve always dreamed of writing books that brought to others the kind of joy I feel when I read.

But…I never did anything about it besides jot down a few ideas and sparse scenes.

When I turned 41, I decided it was time to go after my dream and started writing. Within four months, I’d written over 150,000 words and haven’t stopped since. I’ve found my passion by writing about sexy, alpha heroes and smart, tough heroines falling in love and finding their passion. I’m truly living the dream and loving every minute of it.

My tagline is…

Passion and adventure on the road to Happily Ever After. I have to admit, I am loving this adventure!

Misfits by Garrett Leigh

MisfitsMisfits by Garrett Leigh
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Let me start with….. never has a book cover fit a book so perfect. Just by looking at it, it really doesn’t speak to you, but once you hit the last page, its like HOLY SHIT, she nailed it!!!!

This book was simply put.. AMAZING, dealing with a condition I had no experience with, and she really did her research. I felt every tic, slap, buzz that Jake made through the story. What a diverse set of individuals she gave us for this story. Tom had my heart, Cass had my soul, and Jake had my everything. This is more than a love story, more than a menage, it a story of discovery. so greatly written I read it in one setting. This is only the second book I’ve read from this author but it will not be my last.
